Test the performance of radars

Qualification, calibration and commissioning of radar systems

Application use

For radar system qualification, calibration and entry into service, a number of trials are necessary to define the system performance across the entire operational range and identify any subsequent inadequacies. These calibration and test sessions are expensive particularly when real targets are used to qualify the system. For budgetary reasons, these real targets can be replaced by simulated targets wich are easier to use and capable of generating realistic radar signatures (active radar cross section manipulation, Micro-Doppler).

Requirements

Qualification : Characterise the system performance across the entire operational range and identify any subsequent inadequacies

Calibration : Check radar performance against a calibrated target

Technical acceptance : Conduct a measured radar performance test campaign

Commissioning : Carry out the radar system implementation with electronically generated target signals

Operator requirements

  • Target is 100% configurable: RCS, Doppler, radar signature
  • Remote control : user interface, instantaneous parameter configuration
  • Budget savings : replacement of real targets with much cheaper systems for the calibration, qualification and technical acceptance of the radar
